Latest Update – On Monday, Hindustan Copper Ltd, which is owned by the state, announced that its consolidated net profits more than doubled to Rs 113.40 crore for the quarter ending June 30, 2024. In the same period last year, it made a net profit of only Rs 47.28 crore.

Hindustan Copper Limited focused on the production of copper from mining to beneficiation, smelting, refining, production of refined cast copper metal and conversion into marketable varieties. In the Malanjkhand Copper Project at Madhya Pradesh (MCP), Khetri Copper Complex at Rajasthan (KCC) and Indian Copper Complex in Ghatsila at Jharkhand (ICC), the Company owned copper mines and concentrator plants. The copper cathodes are produced via operation of smelters and refineries located in the ICC and Gujarat Copper Project, Gujarat (GCP). Taloja Copper Project, Taloja, Maharashtra (TCP) produces copper wire rod from cathodes.

Capacity

Expansion plans
The demand for copper is anticipated to rise because of a higher focus on renewable energy, a greater use of consumer goods by families and an increase in the number of electric cars. In order to satisfy the growing need for copper, HCL has embarked on expansion plans that will see mining capacity increased from 3.97 MTPA to 12.20 MTPA in Phase I and further up to 20.20 MTPA in Phase II.
